Seismic Beauty, a Grade 1 winner in 2025 who was the beaten favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff last fall, has been retired after losing her first two races in graded stakes in California this year.
Her retirement was confirmed by Brittany Linton, racing manager for owners Randy and Jenny Boyd, and trainer Bob Baffert on Thursday.
“She’s already at the farm,” Baffert said.
Seismic Beauty, a 5-year-old mare by Uncle Mo, won 4 of 10 starts and earned $501,340 in a career highlighted by wins in the Grade 2 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita in May 2025 and the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar in August 2025. Seismic Beauty led throughout both of those wins.

In the BC Distaff at Del Mar last November, Seismic Beauty bobbled at the start and raced third, within a length of leader Scylla to the end of the backstretch, before fading from contention. She finished 11th in her final start for the MyRacehorse partnership and Peter Leidel.
Two days later, Seismic Beauty was sold for $2.5 million to the Boyds. For the Boyds, Seismic Beauty finished third by 9 3/4 lengths in the Santa Margarita Stakes at 2-5 at Santa Anita on May 30 and eighth of nine as the 3-2 favorite in the Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar in what turned out to be her final career start.
“She told us pretty clear that she’s ready for the next phase” of her life, Linton said. “With her pedigree and what she’s accomplished on the track, she has an exciting future.”
The Boyds co-own, with Michael Talla, the Baffert-trained Splendora, a four-time stakes winner this year in graded stakes for fillies and mares. Splendora won the Grade 1 B. Wayne Hughes Beholder Mile at Santa Anita on March 7, days after the Boyds bought a share in the 5-year-old mare.
In her last start, Splendora won the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes at 1 1/16 miles by 5 1/2 lengths as the 3-10 favorite at Monmouth Park on July 18.
Splendora breezed a half-mile in 48.60 seconds at Churchill Downs last Saturday in her first workout since the $500,000 Molly Pitcher. On Thursday, Baffert did not state a race goal for Splendora, who has won 9 of 15 starts and earned $1,657,700.
Splendora is considered a candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Keeneland on Oct. 31.
