Seffeara stays tough to win Clarendon

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The unbeaten Seffeara made two moves during his gutsy score over Conquest Typhoon in Saturday’s $150,000 Clarendon Stakes, a 5 1/2-furlong dash for 2-year-olds at Woodbine.
Seffeara ($3.40) shook loose on the lead along the inside, before being overtaken by three rivals late on the turn. He then dug back in through the final furlong, and got home on by a length and a half in 1:04.67.
The well-regarded first-time starter Conquest Typhoon finished four lengths clear of R U Watchingbud, who wound up third in the seven-horse field of Ontario-breds.
Gary Boulanger rode Seffeara for Empress Racing Stable and trainer Steve Owens.
“He’s a pretty special horse,” Boulanger said. “He was a little bad in the gate, but he got away clean. He didn’t know what to do out there by himself. He kinda got lost, and was looking around. When he saw [the others], he got back involved, kicked back on and won.”
Executive Allure takes third straight in Passing Mood
Executive Allure ($4.10) won her third race in a row in Saturday’s supporting feature, the $125,000 Passing Mood Stakes.
Executive Allure went right to the front under Eurico Da Silva and never looked back, prevailing by 3 3/4 lengths over Virreina, who nosed out And I Did for third.
Executive Allure, trained by Darwin Banach for owner Bill Sorokolit, covered seven furlongs over firm turf in 1:21.28 in the race for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies.
