Sefa, owner, dead at 74

C.A. Shoemaker|Apr 18, 2003

Farid Sefa, Michigan's most prominent owner and breeder, died of pancreatic cancer Thursday in a Lexington, Ky., hospital. Sefa, a native of Lebanon, would have turned 75 on Friday.

Sefa's greatest success was with Sefa's Beauty, a multiple stakes winner of more than $1.1 million in the 1980's. Sefa's Beauty won the Grade 1 Apple Blossom and Grade 2 Molly Pitcher handicaps in 1985. She also won the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap twice.

Sefa is survived by his wife, Pat; a son, Grant; a stepdaughter, Brenda Hill; and a grandson, Austin LeBlanc. The family said a memorial service would be planned in Michigan after the Great Lakes Downs meet begins April 26.
