Seeking the Sherif scores in Oak Tree Sprint

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Seeking the Sherif, a Breeders' Cup Sprint competitor last November, proved uncatchable in the lane as he captured the $53,715 Oak Tree Sprint on Sunday's closing day at the Oak Tree at Pleasanton meet at the Alameda County Fair.
The 6-year-old Seeking the Sherif ($8.80), who was claimed from a win for $62,500 in his first start of 2015, broke well and sat beside early leader Quick and Silver, one-half length back. He was content to maintain his stalking position before edging past Quick and Silver in the lane to win the six-furlong sprint by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:10.24. Aalsmeer was third, another 1 3/4 lengths back.
"It took him a while to get going, but after that, I was just trying to wait," said winning rider Mario Gutierrez. "Anybody who was going to catch him in the stretch would really have to run. It was just perfect."
Trained by Gus Headley and owned by Kurt Rexius, Seeking the Sherif earned $32,500 for his ninth victory in 18 starts. He has now earned $331,210.
