Seeking the Ante winner Maple Leaf Mel calls it a season

Barbara D. Livingston Maple Leaf Mel, coming off a maiden victory, wins the Seeking the Ante on Aug. 26 at Saratoga.
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York-bred 2-year-old filly Maple Leaf Mel, who won the Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga 16 days after winning her maiden, will be given off the remainder of the year and point to a 3-year-old campaign in 2023, trainer Jeremiah Englehart said Friday.
“She had a little setback,” Englehart said. “It’s just in her best interests if we let her keep on growing up.”
Maple Leaf Mel, owned by Hall of Fame football coach Bill Parcells, will be sent to Blackwood Farm in Kentucky and get 45 to 60 days off before joining Englehart’s South Florida string late this year.
