Seducer's Song wins at Spa
Seducer's Song overcame a slow pace to win Monday's $113,900 Lake George Stakes at Saratoga, beating favored Venturi by 1 1/2 lengths.
Fortunate Damsel finished third, a nose behind Venturi, in the Grade 3 Lake George, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies.
Lucifer's Stone, the second choice, broke from the outside in the 10-horse field and finished fifth.
Under Jerry Bailey, Seducer's Song raced several lengths off the pace for the first half-mile. She made a bold move around the turn and grabbed the lead from pacesetter Art Fan with a furlong remaining.
Bailey was subbing for Seducer's Song's regular rider, Jose Santos, who is injured.
Christophe Clement, Seducer's Song's trainer, said, "It's a shame [Santos] couldn't ride her, but Jerry is a good substitute."
Clement won a division of the Lake George in 2001 with Voodoo Dancer.
The win was Seducer's Song's first in a stakes. She returned $15.40 and covered the distance in 1:42.01 over the Mellon turf, which was labeled good.
Seducer's Song, a daughter of Unbridled's Song, was bred by her owner, Peter Karches.
