Secret Circle works five furlongs toward Santa Anita Sprint Championship
Secret Circle, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint last year, worked five furlongs in 59 seconds Sunday, preparing for Saturday’s $300,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.
Secret Circle has not raced since finishing second in the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes here last February. He was in training last spring and was rested until resuming workouts in late July.
“He looked good,” trainer Bob Baffert said of the workout. “I think he should get a lot out of it.”
Secret Circle will be part of a field that includes Goldencents, who won the BC Dirt Mile last year, and the Hong Kong invader Rich Tapestry, a 6-year-old gelding who has won stakes in Hong Kong and Dubai.
Last March, Rich Tapestry was second in the $2 million Golden Shaheen at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. He has made one subsequent start, finishing eighth in the $451,500 Sprint Cup at Hong Kong in April.
The Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship is part of the Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In program, offering a fees paid berth to the BC Sprint on Nov. 1.
