ELMONT, N.Y. - Search Results wrested the lead from Dayoutoftheoffice just outside the eighth pole in Saturday’s Grade 1 Acorn and, to the players that made her the 4-5 favorite, they probably felt secure. Trainer Chad Brown, knowing how hard Search Results ran five weeks earlier when second to Malathaat in the Kentucky Oaks, wasn’t so sure. “Because I respect Malathaat so much and I respect our horse so much for the effort that she put out . . . you always wonder in deep stretch, is she going to feel the Oaks off of five weeks?” Brown said. That effort may have caught up to Search Results, but Obligatory couldn’t as Search Results held on for a half-length victory in the $500,000 Acorn at Belmont Park. Obligatory, winner of the Grade 2 Eight Belles at Churchill Downs last out, finished second by a length over Make Mischief. The pacesetting Dayoutoftheoffice faded to fourth while Travel Column finished last. Miss Brazil scratched to run in Sunday’s $150,000 Jersey Girl Stakes at Belmont. Search Results, a daughter of Flatter owned by Seth Klarman’s Klaravich Stables, won for the fourth time in five starts. She was ridden to victory by Javier Castellano, who was subbing for the injured Irad Ortiz Jr. :: DRF Bets players get FREE Daily Racing Form Past Performances and up to 5% weekly cashback. Join Now.  Down the backstretch, Castellano had Search Results a joint third, outside of Travel Column, while stalking Dayoutoftheoffice and Make Mischief through a modest half-mile in 47.23 seconds. Search Results gradually crept toward the leaders and took over from Dayoutoftheoffice approaching the eighth pole. Her margin was big enough in the final sixteenth, that, despite getting tired, Search Results was able to hold off Obligatory. Search Results covered the mile in 1:35.50 and returned $3.80 as the favorite. She was assigned a 95 Beyer Speed Figure. Search Results has a habit of not switching leads in the stretch, but “she keeps running,” Castellano said. Jose Ortiz, on Obligatory, said the slow pace compromised his filly’s chances. “The pace was a little slower today and when they started running at the three-eighths pole they got the jump on me,” Ortiz said. “It was very hard to keep her engaged with them but she make a good run nonetheless.” Brown said he isn’t sure if he will keep Search Results in races around one turn or stretch her back out in distance. He has another top 3-year-old filly in Always Carina, who is pointing to the Grade 2 Mother Goose here on June 26.
