OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The first step in trainer Chad Brown’s plan to keep his top fillies and mares separated on potentially the road to the Breeders’ Cup worked to perfection when Search Results won last Saturday’s Grade 3 Locust Grove Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths at Churchill Downs. Brown chose to run Search Results in the Locust Grove so he could run his 3-year-old filly Randomized, winner of the Grade 1 Alabama last month, in the Grade 2 Beldame versus older females at Aqueduct on Oct. 8. Brown will run his other stakes-winning 3-year-old filly Occult in Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Cotillion at Parx. Brown said Search Results has shipped back to Belmont Park and will train there up to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita on Nov. 4. Search Results and Randomized are both owned by Seth Klarman. In addition to wanting to keep those two separated, running Search Results in the Locust Grove gives her seven weeks to the Breeders’ Cup. Search Results ran third in the July 22 Molly Pitcher at Monmouth Park six weeks after having a hard race when finishing second to Clairiere in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps. :: Get Belmont at the Big A Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day. “I felt like when I ran her back in the Molly Pitcher, I didn’t give her enough time and the horse did not run her best that day because of that,” Brown said. “With just a little more spacing, she’s clearly more effective.” By running Randomized in the Beldame, it allows Brown to cut her back to 1 1/8 miles from 1 1/4 miles whereas the Cotillion would have meant cutting her back to 1 1/16 miles. Occult, who will run in the Cotillion, is coming off a dominant 10 1/4-length victory in the Monmouth Oaks. In the Cotillion, Occult will face division leader Pretty Mischievous. “She ran great last time she’s going to have run equally as well if not better,” Brown said of Occult. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
