Sea Vow aims to rebound in Pelican Stakes

Sea Vow will attempt to win the fourth stakes race of his young career Saturday night, when he takes on seven others in the $100,000 Pelican Stakes at Delta Downs. The 7 1/2-furlong, two-turn race is restricted to 3-year-olds bred in Louisiana.
Others set to start include Icy Gentleman and So Sorry Ruston, who finished one-two in last month’s $125,000 Premier Night Prince at Delta Downs, and Our Rapidash, the winner of a division of the $90,000 Louisiana Stallion Stakes in September at Louisiana Downs.

◗ Sea Vow raced farther off the pace than usual in the Premier Night Prince, stalking the leaders. In his winning races, he set the fractions at distances ranging from six furlongs to a mile.
◗ Sea Vow drew an improved post over his last start, getting gate No. 4 after breaking from post No. 8 in the two-turn Premier Night Prince.
◗ Alexander Castillo has the mount for trainer Joey Foster.
◗ Ronald Webb bred and owns Sea Vow, who is out of the stakes-winning mare Victory At Sea.

◗ He ran the race of his career last out, setting the pace en route to a dominant win in the Premier Night Prince. For the effort, he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83, his best number in seven starts and the best last-race Beyer in the Pelican. The Premier Night Prince was his second stakes win, following the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile on Aug. 8 at Louisiana Downs.
