Scoops Dynasty finds first major stakes win in Los Alamitos Winter Derby
Scoops Dynasty won the first major stakes of his career in Saturday’s $212,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby, justifying his status as the fastest qualifier from time trials on Jan. 29.
Ridden by Armando Cervantes, Scoops Dynasty broke well from post 3 in a field of 10 and held a narrow advantage through the first 100 yards. Midway through the race, Scoops Dynasty expanded his lead to three-quarters of a length.
Sent off favored, Scoops Dynasty ($7.60) led by that margin to the wire, outfinishing 4-1 A Pollitical Candy V. Corona Y (9-2) finished third, a half-length behind A Pollitical Candy V.
Scoops Dynasty ran 400 yards in 19.47 seconds for owners and breeders Ed and Von Zae McNelis of Idaho and trainer Monty Arrossa.
In time trials for the Winter Derby, Scoops Dynasty was timed in a slower 19.72 seconds.
A gelding by FDD Dynasty, Scoops Dynasty has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $133,428. In 2021, Scoops Dynasty won the $54,978 California Juvenile Challenge in August to earn a berth in the $130,625 AQHA Juvenile Challenge at The Downs at Albuquerque in October. Scoops Dynasty finished third at Albuquerque in his first appearance in a six-figure race.
