Scoop romps in slop in Indy Oaks

Bill Hodtwalker|Oct 06, 2001

ANDERSON, Ind. - Scoop found the sloppy going to her liking Friday night at Hoosier Park and won the $205,800 Indiana Breeders' Cup Oaks by a comfortable three lengths.

Ridden by Robby Albarado, Scoop ($11) angled inside pacesetting favorite Caressing going to the far turn and drew clear turning into the quarter-mile stretch of this seven-eighths of a mile oval. Albarado was in cruise control through the lane, drawing off under only mild urging through the final eighth of a mile.

Trained by Gene Cilio, Scoop earned her first graded stakes victory in the Grade 3 event, covering the 1 1/16 miles over a rain-drenched track in 1:44.06. Gold Huntress, ridden by Shane Laviolette, rallied to be second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of 4-5 favorite Caressing in third.
