Scioto: Workin Ona Mystery bounces back in Send It In Invitational

Workin Ona Mystery rebounded after getting shuffled badly and finishing ninth in the Dan Patch a couple weeks back by taking Saturday night's $100,000 #SendItIn Invitational for older pacers at Scioto Downs in 1:49 1/5.
Driven by Ronnie Wrenn Jr., Workin Ona Mystery left quickly from post five, but he would yield to sit in the pocket behind Ocean Rock (Dan Noble) in a rapid 25 2/5 opening quarter. After taking command, Ocean Rock kept the tempo hot and would continue to show the way through a 53 4/5 half and a 1:20 4/5 three-quarters. Brassy Hanover (Aaron Merriman) tried it first-over from fourth approaching the half but stalled out, and when Tellmeaboutit (Jeremy Smith) also couldn't make any headway after going three-wide from second-over, that aided the chances of horses that elected to sit on the pylons.
Wrenn Jr. pulled the trigger two-wide with Workin Ona Mystery on the final bend, and he was able to wear down Ocean Rock in the stretch. His work wasn't done, though, as Gold Digger King (Brett Miller) and This Is The Plan (Chris Page) both found racing room in the passing lane. They couldn't reach Workin Ona Mystery, though, as he held on to score by half a length. Gold Digger King was next, followed by This Is The Plan. Little Rocket Man (John De Long) rallied from ninth to fourth in the last quarter, and Ocean Rock faded to fifth.

"I was hoping to get away close. Once I got away behind Danny, I knew if the horse had pace, he'd have a shot in there," said Wrenn Jr. "He's all business. He's a really nice horse. After the two-hole trip I wasn't worried. I thought he'd have a lot of pace."
