Scioto: Two-year-old pacing fillies featured in Ohio Sires Stakes

Honey Buzz, Boyzcalmecarlwayne, and Cruise Alert all clocked 1:53 2/5 miles in taking the trio of $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes tests for rookie pacing fillies on Friday evening at Scioto Downs.
Driven by Tyler Smith in the first grouping, Honey Buzz tracked the cover of Seaside Tina (Trevor Smith) from second-over, then out-footed that filly in the lane to tally by a length. Colorful Dragon (Brett Miller) came in third.
A daughter of Downbytheseaside-Tea Pot Hanover bred by Parent Racing Stable, Honey Buzz is trained by Steve Carter for owner Randy T Young Stables LLC. A $30,000 buy at the Ohio Selected Jug Sale, Honey Buzz has two wins and a second from four attempts, has earned $36,663 and paid $9.40 to win as the 7-2 second choice.
In the second section Boyzcalmecarlwayne (Dan Noble) took the lead going to the 56 second half-mile marker but was passed by a first-over Windydayatthebeach (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) on the way to the 1:24 three-quarters.
Windydayatthebeach continued to lead on the the last turn but could never fully clear Boyzcalmecarlwayne, and Boyzcalmecarlwayne battled back on the rail to regain the top spot late on the bend. From there, Boyzcalmecarlwayne held sway, tallying by half a length. Kassagi (Scott Cisco) crossed the line second but was placed fifth for causing interference to My Red Sea (Kayne Kauffman) before three-quarters, elevating Windydayatthebeach from third to second and No Fear Intended (Brett Miller) from fourth to third.
Boyzcalmecarlwayne is a Fear The Dragon-Express Jet filly owned by trainer Brian Haynes and bred by Larry Miller. Boyzcalmecarlwayne, who was purchased for $9,000 at the Ohio Selected Jug Sale, owns a record of 2-0-0 from three appearances, has put away $26,000, and returned $13 after being sent off at 5-1.
The final flight saw Cruise Alert (Brett Miller) forge her way into the top spot beyond the 28 2/5 opening quarter. She remained the boss through a 58 2/5 half and a 1:25 3/5 three-quarters, and was able to fend off a first-over Fear Of Sports (Tyler Smith) through the 27 4/5 final panel, winning by a quarter of a length. McSeaside (Chris Page) went under the wire an off-stride third and was placed seventh, promoting Onederfulbeach (Aaron Merriman) from fourth to third.
Trained by Jeff Nisonger for owners Our Three Sons Stable LLC. and Nisonger Stable LLC., Cruise Alert, a Yankee Cruiser-Northern Eclipse filly who was taken out of the Ohio Selected Jug Sale for $29,000, broke her maiden in her second chance and has now pocketed $20,960. Cruise Alert was the 3-5 choice and paid $3.20 to win.
