Scioto: Record weekend of handle concludes
Eldorado Scioto Downs wrapped up an impressive opening holiday weekend on Memorial Day with its third consecutive $1 million-plus handle.
The momentum began on May 22 when total wagering topped $1.05 million, continued the next night with $1.12 million and reached near-record territory for the track on Monday when $1.19 million was bet. The three amounts were the second through fourth highest handles in Scioto’s history, according to track officials.
The all-time record for Scioto occurred on September 7, 1996 when $1,231,444 was poured through the windows. Of course, that total included on-track wagering, while the handle from this past weekend was off-track only due to the COVD-19 pandemic.
Racing at Scioto continues on Wednesday evening with a 6:30 PM post time. They will be joined on the Standardbred calandar this week as Northfield Park, the second harness track in the country to return to racing, gets going on Tuesday.
