Scioto: Ohio State Fair grand slam for Burke

The second night of the Ohio State Fair stakes extravaganza at Eldorado Scioto Downs put the ladies in the spotlight, with divisions held for 2- and 3-year-old filly pacers, sophomore trotting fillies and two new events for older mares.

Trainer Ron Burke had a four-bagger in the stakes. He teamed up with driver Chris Page to win an $80,500 2-year-old pace with Cleveland Darby (by Downbytheseaside and bred by Carl Howard, paid $2.60 to win) in 1:53 1/5 for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., R A S Racing LLC. and Larry Karr, a $50,500 3-year-old pace with Shacarri (by Summa Cum Laude and bred by co-owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC. and Phil Collura, paid $2.60 to win) in 1:51 4/5 for co-owner Zippett Racing Stable and a $73,700 filly trot with Mooter Tooter (by Long Tom and bred by Wayne Weaver, paid $6.40 to win) in 1:53 4/5 for co-owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Knox Services Inc., Beasty LLC. and R A S Racing LLC.

Also victorious for the Burke Brigade was 3-year-old filly pacer Seaside Charm (by Downbytheseaside and bred by Brookside Stables and Amos Lengacher, paid $4.80 to win), as Ronnie Wrenn Jr. guided her to a 1:51 triumph in her $51,200 test for owners Thomas and Scott Dillon.

Also posting multiple victories in Ohio State Fair contests was driver David Miller. He bagged a $73,000 trot with Godusa (by Ready For Moni and bred by Carter Duer, paid $6.40 to win) in 1:53 2/5 for trainer Nancy Takter and owners E Five Racing and John Fielding, and also prevailed in an $81,200 2-year-old filly pace with Tempting Flames (by Catch The Fire and bred by Ivy Holdings, paid $2.20 to win) in 1:52 for trainer Michael Hitchcock and owner William Hartt.

Rodeo Dancer (by Rodeo Romeo and bred by owners Oompa's Farm Inc. and Robert Mondillo, paid $2.20 to win) denied Burke a fifth stakes win when she won her $50,500 3-year-old filly pace by a nose over Seaside Shuffle (Page) for driver Brett Miller and trainer Steve Bauder.

Brett Miller also captured the $65,000 older mare trot with Jurassic Hattie (a 5-year-old by Volstead, paid $7.40 to win) in 1:52 for trainer Stacey Van Huizen and owner/breeder Jerry Welch, while Odds On Chesapeake (a 4-year-old by Downbytheseaside, paid $3.20 to win) captured the $67,500 older mare pace in 1:50 4/5 with Luke Hanners in the bike for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. and owner/breeder Odds On Racing.
