Scioto: Ohio Sires Stakes events galore took place on Saturday

Ten divisions of Ohio Sires Stakes, four splits for 2-year-old pacers of both sexes and a pair of sections for sophomore colt and gelding trotters, were contested Saturday night, July 11 at Scioto Downs.

Charlie May captured the first of four $40,000 OSS contests for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings for driver Danny Noble in 1:54 2/5 as the 1-9 favorite. It was the second career victory in as many starts for the brown son of McArdle. Trained by Steve Carter, Charlie May now has $95,000 in career earnings for breeder-owner Don Tiger. Barnard Hanover, a 16-1 longshot, was second for Chris Page, while Brett Miller steered I'm Sorry Man to a third-place finish at 5-1 odds.

Lady Arthur took the first of four $40,000 OSS races for freshman pacing fillies in 1:53 2/5 in a wire-to-wire performance for driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr., bettering rival Summer Touch (Page) by a neck. Disaronno Hill (B. Miller) was third. Lady Arthur is a daughter of Arthur Blue Chip and the victory was the first of her career in two starts. She now has $22,738 in career earnings for trainer and co-owner Dr. Ian Moore, who owns the filly in partnership with the RG McGroup and Serge Savard.

Yanks Dugout captured the first of two $50,000 OSS events for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings, besting four rivals in 1:54 2/5 and defeating favorite It's Academic (Page) by a head from first-over. It was the second victory in the series for the son of Triumphant Caviar, who is trained by Edward Miller and was driven by Kurt Sugg for owners and breeders Ivan and Duke Sugg. Yanks Dugout now has $75,150 in his career coffers. Stonefire US (Dewayne Minor) nabbed third-place honors.

Laughagain Hanover got a perfect steer by Peter Wrenn to capture the second OSS division for 2-year-old pacing males, stopping the timer in 1:54 3/5. The son of McArdle, who is trained by Laura Searway, left the gate as the 9-5 favorite and notched his second lifetime win in as many tries. Hill Yeah was second at 3-1 for Page, while 3-1 Jackie Moon was third for Josh Sutton. Owned by Michael Cimaglio, W. Richardson, and R Cimaglio, Laughagain Hanover has $22,248 in career earnings.

Winella Hanover took a new lifetime mark of 1:54 4/5 in her victory in the second OSS for 2-year-old pacing fillies. Driven by Page for trainer Ron Burke, the daughter of Racing Hill notched her third triumph in as many tries. Owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, J. Mellilo, and J&T Silva-Purnel&Libby, Winella Hanover now has $99,800 in her career bankroll.

Action Uncle captured the second OSS for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings via a front-end trip for driver Brett Miller in 1:54 4/5. Trained by Virgil Morgan Jr., the son of Uncle Peter notched his third straight OSS triumph for owners Cart Howard, Joyce McClelland, and Larry Wills. The 1-9 favorite upped his seasonal earnings to $80,500 with four wins in as many tries. Wading Boots was second for Page, while Doubleyellowline got up for third for Noble.

Hardt At Work prevailed in the third OSS divison for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings, tripping the timer in 1:55 1/5. The son of Manhardt is conditioned and was driven by Mike Micallef for Brett Boyd Racing and Anthony Formosa. Rockin Airway was second for Kayne Kauffman, while Caviart Sargent was third for Wrenn Jr. Hardt At Work is now two-for-two in his brief career and sports a bankroll of $23,750.

Leave Her Wild exploded in the final yards to win the third OSS contest for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:55 1/5. Driven by Wrenn Jr. for trainer-owner Danielle Snyder, the daughter of Domethatagain picked up her second straight victory in as many tries, upping her career earnings to $23,400. Pinknperfect was second for Chris Page, while She Knows It All nailed down show honors for Brett Miller.

Odds On Pick Six cpatured the final OSS for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings in a commanding 1:54 2/5 for driver Peter Wrenn and trainer Melanie Wrenn. The son of Racing Hill picked up his first career win for Odds On Racing as the 2-5 favorite, besting Home Team (Wrenn Jr.) and 52-1 Rose Run Warner (Trevor Smith). Odds On Pick Six now has $57,500 in career earnings.

Sentimental captured the final Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:56 1/5 with Tyler Smith driving for trainer John Ackley and the CT Stables of Washington Court House, Ohio. This bay filly is by Ohio sire The Panderosa and now has two wins in as many career starts. Bred by Marvin Raber of Berlin, Ohio, Sentimental sports a bankroll of $23,750. Lady Sconset was second for Derek Watiker with Rocking The Blues third for Noble.
