Scioto: Merriman registers driving triple in Ohio State Fair

Two-year-old trotting colts and geldings and 3-year-old fillies of both gaits took their turn in the Ohio State Fair tests at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Friday.
Driver Aaron Merriman recorded an Ohio State Fair hat trick by winning the first three races on the card, taking a $75,500 filly trot with Waddupgee (by Triumphant Caviar and bred by trainer/co-owner Chris Beaver) in 1:54 4/5, a $56,500 colt and gelding trot with Royal Precedent (by Creatine and bred by owner Claude Gendreau Stb Inc. in 1:56 1/5 for trainer Sam Schillaci and another $56,500 colt and gelding trot with Spaaaanzano (by Coraggioso and bred by Timothy Stutzman) in 1:55 4/5 for co-owner/trainer Chris Beaver and co-owners Spaaaartners, Bill Manes and Leo Fleming.
Brett Miller also had multiple Ohio State Fair victories as he captured a $77,000 filly pace with Cruise Alert (by Yankee Cruiser and bred by Mahlon Miller) in 1:51 for trainer Jeff Nisonger and owners Our Three Sons Stables LLC. and Nisonger Stable LLC. and a $75,500 filly trot with Rose Run Yolanda (by Triumphant Caviar and bred by Rose Run Farm) in 1:53 for trainer Todd Luther and owner Greg Luther Racing LLC.

Ron Burke and Chris Page picked up their third Ohio Sires Stakes triumph of the week so far by bagging a $56,500 colt and gelding trot with Tennessee Tom (by Long Tom and bred by Albert Miller) in 1:57 3/5 for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Hatfield Stables and Knox Services Inc., and 12-1 shot Racing For Three (by Western Terror and bred by owners C2G Stable and Carlo Racing LLC.) pulled an upset in her $77,000 filly pace, tallying in 1:51 for driver Tyler Smith and trainer Al Carlo.
