Scioto: Magestic Seas speeds to track record in Ohio Sires Stakes

Conrad Photo Magestic Seas is now Scioto Downs's all-time fastest 2-year-old filly pacer

The 2023 Ohio Sires Stakes season for 2-year-olds kicked off on Saturday at Eldorado Scioto Downs and included a track record performance by Magestic Seas in the first $40,000 section for pacing fillies.

Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. moved Magestic Seas to the point heading to the 55 1/5 half, and after putting three-quarters on the board in 1:23, she sprinted home in 28 1/5 to win by two lengths in 1:51 1/5. It was the second straight stakes win for Magestic Seas, who also took last Saturday's $150,000 Next Generation for trainer Brian Brown and owners Country Club Acres Inc., Kirk Nichols and Scott Dillon.

Racing Hill, who competed in the nightcap of the Scioto program and finished eighth, had four of his progeny win sires stakes races - gelding Rose Run Zane in 1:53 for driver Austin Hanners, trainer Dan Venier and owners John and Leann Saunders; filly Daisy's Star in 1:53 1/5 for driver Brett Miller, trainer/breeder Johnson Hill Jr. and owner/breeder Brent Tartar; filly Irreplaceable in 1:55 for driver Jeremy Smith, trainer Todd Luther and owner Greg Luther Racing LLC. and colt Racing Rebel in 1:52 4/5 for driver Sam Widger, trainer Dan O'Mara and owner/breeder Marjorie Polhamus.

In addition to Magestic Seas, Downbytheseaside also had winners in colt Outer Banks in 1:52 4/5 for driver Chris Page, trainer Ron Burke, and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Ras Racing LLC., J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. and filly Dancing On Glass in 1:54 1/5 for driver Cameron McCown, trainer Brian Brown and owner Hutchison Harness LLC.

Rounding out the nine sires stakes victors during the card were Hundred Dollar Man, a gelding from the first crop of Lather Up, in 1:53 3/5 for driver Montrell Teague, trainer Clyde Francis and owner/breeder Brenda Teague Inc. and Fear The Dragon gelding Fear The Image in 1:53 for driver Brett Miller, trainer Randy Smith and owner Jessica Smith.
