Piloted by Kurt Sugg, Jet Hill led through fractions of 28 2/5, 58 2/5, and 1:27 4/5, then trotted a 28 4/5 last quarter to defeat a gaining John Dutton (Chris Page) by two lengths in 1:56 3/5. In the next division, The Buckeye Hill (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) followed No More Sweets (Tony Hall) in the pocket through panels of 29 4/5, 1:01 1/5, and 1:30 4/5. The Buckeye Hill then rallied into the lead on the inside in the lane and was able to hold sway over a closing Rose Run Yowza (Trevor Smith) by a neck in 1:59 4/5. Black Magic would go to the top and carve out opening-half fractions of 29 4/5 and 59 4/5, but A Real Legend (Irvine Jr.) was out and moving from fourth going to the half, and he would get head-and-head with Black Magic coming to the 1:28 4/5 three-quarters. The battle between A Real Legend and Black Magic continued onto the last turn, but A Real Legend forged his way into the lead on the rim midway through the bend, and then in the lane, despite drifting out, pulled away from Black Magic to tally by a length and a half in 1:57 2/5. Sunrise Hill (Wrenn Jr.) was the third-place finisher. A Real Legend is a gelded son of Uncle Peter-Pink Ribbons owned by trainer Rosy Weaver and Heartland Acres.
