Scioto: Freshmen fillies spar in Ohio Sire Stakes
Twenty-two Ohio Sires Stakes eligible freshmen fillies will go postward Friday night (July 24) at Scioto Downs in a trio of battles, each sporting a purse of $40,000. This is the second leg of action in the four-round series for the Buckeye State’s top Ohio-breds.
Ohio-registered stallions represented by progeny in these three races include 10 each by first crop sire Racing Hill and Well Said, with three by McArdle and two by Nob Hill High. Stallions represented by one foal each include Arthur Blue Chip, Domethatagain, Pet Rock, Rockin Amadeus, The Panderosa, Western Vintage and Yankee Cruiser.
In the first OSS division (Race 2) Leave Her Wild will try to repeat her performance from Leg 1. The daughter of Domethatagain posted a 1:55 1/5 clocking in that first effort for driver Mike Wilder and owner-trainer Danielle Snyder in her pari-mutuel debut and also has another overnight victory to her credit, with $23,400 in career earnings.
A trio of OSS Leg 1 winners face off in the second division (Race 10). Lady Arthur was the fastest of the three with a 1:53 3/5 score for trainer Ian Moore and driver Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. Owned by Moore, RG McGroup and Serge Savard, this homebred daughter by Arthur Blue Chip has $22,738 in career earnings.
The undefeated Racing Hill filly Winella Hanover hails from the powerful stable of trainer Ronnie Burke and captured her Leg 1 test in 1:54 4/5 with Chris Page at the lines. Owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, J. Melillo and J&T Silva-Purnel&Libby, Winella Hanover has $97,800 as she also won a Next Generation Pace at Scioto earlier in the season.
Sentimental is a John Ackley-trainee who captured her Leg 1 event in 1:56 1/5 with Tyler Smith at the controls. Bred by Marvin Raber, this daughter of The Panderosa is owned by the CT Stables and has amassed $23,750 thus far to date.
The final OSS contest of the night (Race 12) is more wide open, headed up by Gucci from post one. Owned by Tim Homan, this bay daughter by Nob Hill High is trained by Christi Noble and was a strong second to Winella Hanover in that Leg 1 contest, clocked in 1:55 in her pari-mutuel debut.
