Scioto: Four-bagger for Burke, Page in Ohio Sires Stakes

Trainer Ron Burke and driver Chris Page connected in four of the eight Ohio Sires Stakes events that took place on the undercard of the Charlie Hill and Jim Ewart Memorials on Saturday night at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Burke's pair of undefeated 2-year-old pacing colts - Swingtown and Rick Wink - delivered again in their respective $65,000 tilts. Swingtown, by Downbytheseaside and bred by Steiner Stock Farm, scored from first-up in 1:51 4/5 for co-owners Burke Racing Stable LLc., Hatfield Stables, Knox Services Inc. and R A S Racing LLC., while Rick Wink, by Bit Of A Legend N and bred by Larry Miller, worked out a second-over trip from the trailing post ten and rallied to a 1:51 4/5 triumph for co-owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., R A S Racing LLC., Knox Services Inc. and J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby.

Three-year-old pacing filly Seaside Diva took control for Page from first-over going to the 1:22 3/5 three-quarters in her $65,000 dash and cruised to a 1:50 4/5 decision. The daughter of Downbytheseaside is a homebred for Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Knox Services Inc. and Let It Ride Stables Inc.

Tennessee Tom completed the Burke/Page grand slam in the $103,000 3-year-old male trot as he went three-wide from second-over before the 1:26 3/5 three-quarters, stormed into the lead from first-up on the final bend, and held sway to the wire in 1:54 4/5. A Long Tom gelding bred by Albert Miller, Tennessee Tom is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Hatfield Stables and Knox Services Inc.

Sugar Instead (Brett Miller) imrpoved to nine-for-nine this year in the $100,000 filly trot. She left from post nine, worked her way to the point after the 28 second opening quarter, and staved off challenges on both sides in the lane to score in 1:55 for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. The daughter of Volstead was bred by Elmer Miller and is owned by Joyce McClelland and Larry Wills.

The pair of $65,000 groupings for 3-year-old male pacers were taken by Clever Cody (by The Panderosa and bred by Marvin Raber, paid $12.60 to win) in 1:52 for driver Aaron Merriman, trainer Dr. Ian Moore and owner Clever Cody Stable and Paris's Dragon (by Fear The Dragon, bred by co-owner Dennis Owens, paid $3.80 to win) in 1:51 1/5 for driver Dan Noble, trainer Christi Noble and co-owner Norman Rae Racing.

No Foolin April (by Nob Hill High, bred by owner/trainer Adam Short, paid $6.60 to win) bagged the second of the two $65,000 races for sophomore pacing fillies in 1:51 2/5 with Dexter Dunn in the bike.
