Chulo and Longshot came away with victories in the two $55,000 Ohio Sires Stakes sections for 3-year-old male trotters on Saturday at Scioto Downs. Starting from post seven in the opening flight, Chulo (Brett Miller) was able to land in a seat in fourth on the first turn. Meanwhile, Guido Di (Brady Brown) tipped out of the pocket and took the top spot away from Rose Run Xtra (Chris Page) past a 28 2/5 opening quarter. Guido Di then backed down the half to 58 seconds, and Miller got Chulo underway first-over on the way to that marker. Guido Di and Chulo were on even-terms at the 1:26 three-quarters, but Chulo forged his way to a slim advantage on the final bend and then fought off a passing lane try by Rose Run Xtra through the stretch to tally by three-quarters of a length in 1:54. The Mighty Hill (Trevor Smith) rallied for third. Trainer Per Engblom also co-owns Chulo, a What The Hill colt bred by Renee Spahr, with Chulo Partners. This was Chulo's third career victory in 13 attempts, and he has now earned $144,035. He paid $17.40 to win as a 7-1 offering. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter In the other division Doo Wop Kid (Tony Hall) had early command, but he would be looped by Up Blueberry Hill (Page) and then Longshot (Chris Lems) after a 28 3/5 opening quarter. Longshot stayed on the engine through middle-half fractions of 56 4/5 and 1:25 3/5, and a 28 4/5 last quarter slammed the door on a 1 1/4 length victory over Up Blueberry Hill in 1:54 2/5. Bamboo (Dan Noble) put in a first-over bid and wound up third. Scott Cox trains Longshot, a gelded son of Long Tom bred by Perry Coblentz, for owners Wayne Mast Jr. and Callam Racing LLC. Longshot has compiled a record of 6-2-1 from 14 lifetime tries, pushed his bankroll to $57,686, and returned $3.40 to win as the 3-5 favorite.
