BEST BET: ODDS ON HIALEAH (7th) SPOT PLAY: SECURITY PROTECTED (11th) Race 1: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Pace - Pick 5 (6) ODDS ON RAY seems to be getting better with every trip to the track for trainer Virgil Morgan. Downbytheseaside colt steps up to the main Sire Stakes even though he can’t race in that consolation. Maybe they just wanted to get a race in. (1) I’LLBETYOURBOOTS has won a couple of these OHSS legs and seems likely to push away enough to stick close to the action; big threat. (7) PROLIFIC BLEND has the early speed to make some noise but still lacks a win in seven starts. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Trot (5) PELICAN HANOVER needs a big mile to move up in the standings and her connections reach out for Brett Miller to get the job done. She’s proven capable of popping a big mile with the right setup. (1) IN THE END is the logical 3-5 chalk here, but notice she only got away third the last time she drew inside and if she brushes, she’s been caught on the lead a couple of times as well. (8) MEGA MONEY will likely be firing off the gate from the outside and I don’t see a ton of speed to her inside. Maybe she can get away soft. Race 3: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace - Pick 4 (3) SHEHASAWAY was huge last time as she rallied wide off dull cover and challenged the leader before wearing her down late. That was just her third career start and she’s dropped time in each of them. Summa Cum Laude fill may just be able to pull off the upset of (2) SHE’SAFIREWOMAN, who has won five straight but was all out in her last win. (1) PACEY STATION found herself last time at The Red Mile. Can she do the same thing here? Race 4: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Pace (3) BACKNINEBAR hasn’t done much with only one second in six career starts but does finish well every week and this field seems to be loaded with potential early speed players. If they mix it up as expected he could be coming at the right time at huge odds. (1) CALILOU HANOVER is another who can motor on the end of the mile. He does have a breaking issue but showed no signs of a late miscue in the stretch last time out. (6) ODDS ON PHIL steps up from the BSS class with a solid record. The addition of Dunn likely means an underlay price. (5) CAPTAIN’S DANCE is the speed of the speed. Can he get the top easily and avoid too much company? Race 5: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Trot (2) MOCHA HILL is back in with Ohio-breds and hopefully we’ll see her raced from behind this week. If she can sit just off the pace and pounce a win is well within reach. (5) AUNT LAURA is certainly dangerous as a wire to wire winner. (4) DREAM SOMETHING has won half of her career starts and she could leave here and sit a cozy pocket trip. Race 6: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO C&G Trot (2) LT LOVERBOY is the fastest and best horse in this field. With only five horses in this division he should prove tough to beat. (1) HILLTOP SONAR could fire out and steal a soft pace in this spot. (5) VEKNA has only finished worse than second twice in 15 career starts. Race 7: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Pace - Pick 4 (5) ODDS ON HIALEAH is much the best in here and it doesn’t hurt that she picks up Dunn in the bike. Take the 1-5 free space and move on in the Pick 4. (1) RYLEE TOO should push away from the inside and sit a good trip; completes cold exacta. (4) SUNONMYBUNS is as consistent as they come with 13 on the board finishes in 15 starts. Race 8: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace (5) STRIDE FOR STRIDE has been on a nice run and only lost last time because she was too far back. (7) LAUDE DA fired out last time and was a good second. She’s eligible to show more in just her fourth lifetime start. (2) ZOOOM CALL has been better since adding Lasix but still can’t seem to win. Race 9: $50K Open Pace (3) GEM QUALITY has picked his game up to another level since coming south of the border and there is no reason to believe he can’t handle this field. (4) FUNTIME BAYAMA rallied well for second last time. Does he simply need the right trip to win or can he find some early speed? (5) TIMEISONMYSIDE has turned in some nice performances this year and I like the switch to Wrenn tonight. (1) MARTINS MILLIONS is a sharp horse coming off a career best mile; dangerous. (10) PARIS’S DRAGON is sharp as they come but stuck in the second tier; not great for a horse that likes to race on the engine. Race 10: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO C&G Trot (3) LONG HIGHWAY has a nose for the wire and stands out even further with McCarthy taking over the lines. (1) JET WINGS couldn’t handle older foes last time but was racing very well prior to that. He’s an amazing 24 for 29 in-the-money lifetime. (2) SCRAPPYS LOVE has big early speed but needs to find a way to go the distance. Race 11: $250K Charlie Hill Memorial Trot - Pick 5 (6) SECURITY PROTECTED was spectacular in the Cashman before getting dealt bad posts in consecutive starts that hampered his ability to compete. Typically a closer, he did race on the front when down in class on July 26 and there is no doubt this is the softest stakes race he has been in this year. (5) HILLEXOTIC is certainly the horse to beat on form and due to his blazing early speed. Catch him to win. (1) HUNG OVER has been racing well for a top trotting barn that owns a stellar record at Scioto this year. (2) CHAPERCRAZ hasn’t been able to get on track all year but I wouldn’t completely count him out. Race 12: $250K Jim Ewart Memorial Pace (9) BYTHEMISSAL couldn’t handle the first-over trip and faded in the stretch last time after a record mile the week prior. He’s back at his favorite track now where he owns a 6-5-0-0 record and already posted 1:47 1/5 and 1:48 3/5 wins this year. The price should drift up nicely off his last race and with the outside post. (4) ERVIN HANOVER has been super for some time and while I don’t expect we’ll see high speed off the gate from him, I do expect a big mile. (5) LITTLE ROCKET MAN is one that should be firing out. He’s got an amazing career record and keeps chugging along despite reaching age 9. (1) WOMEN LAYER paced in 1:47 3/5 here three starts back and gets his nose on the gate again after a second-tier start in his latest. Race 13: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace - Pick 4 (4) RODEO DANCER has raced well near the pace and from behind but still only has one win to show for it. She seems to land in a good spot here with the horse to beat somewhat erratic and drawn outside. (7) SHACARRI has proven to be the fastest of the group while also the most prone to mistakes. If she paces the mile she’ll be tough. (5) DEEP SATIN has been driven too aggressively and perhaps that has taken a toll. I do believe she is better than her recent lines indicate. Race 14: $65K Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Pace (4) ODDS ON CHESAPEAKE has been a win machine all year and should head to the front and take care of business tonight. (1) PROLIFIC FIRE is helped by the inside draw and may be able to ride the top pick’s pocket into a place finish. (5) ROSE RUN AIMEE has gone some big miles but likely needs to fire out and hope the trip works out to have a serious win or place chance. That could prove difficult with the chalk to her inside. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 15: $50K Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Pace (2) PET PROJECT has been rolling along with four straight wins and done it from on and off the pace. Pet Rock-sired 2-year-old should work out no worse than a pocket trip here. (6) LINDY DRAGONWATER just popped off a 1:51 win on the engine and if he can repeat that the rest of these, even the top pick, are going to need a big mile to win. (1) ODDS ON SUGAR tends to be first over and that isn’t a recipe for success. Maybe Dunn can figure out a better path tonight. Race 16: $20K Open II Pace (1) CELTIC SPIRIT N was ambitiously placed in the Canadian Pacing Derby and wasn’t up to snuff. He’s been facing much better than he tackles tonight and should be firing out on all cylinders with a big effort. (7) LOU HILL has ability but hasn’t been able to equate it into a win this year. There are worse horses you could play at 5-1 or 6-1 if the odds land there as they should. (3) QUICK TRICK has also been keeping good company of late and seems like a trip threat on the win end if the top one doesn’t bring his ‘A’ game. (5) ARTATAC A hails from the same barn as Celtic Spirit N and shows the ability to bring a big mile at times; chance.
