Schrodinger out 90 days with injury

DEL MAR, Calif. – Schrodinger, the winner of a maiden special weight race in his debut at Los Alamitos on June 30, has been taken out of training because of injury and will not start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 2.
“He’s going to go to the farm for a little bit,” trainer Simon Callaghan said on Saturday morning. “It’s a soft tissue injury.”
Callaghan said Schrodinger will be sidelined for approximately 90 days.
The $300,000 Del Mar Futurity at seven furlongs is the second stakes of the summer that Schrodinger will miss. He was entered in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes on Aug. 10, but did not start because of illness.
Owned by Kaleem Shah, Schrodinger won his debut on June 30 by 1 1/4 lengths. By Justin Phillip, Schrodinger was purchased for $550,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ sale of 2-year-olds in-training in March.
The Del Mar Futurity is the championship race of the summer meeting for 2-year-olds. The race is led by Wrecking Crew, who was second in the Best Pal, and the maiden winner Eight Rings. Other candidates are Defense Wins, Fore Left, Ginobili, Nucky, Storm the Court, and possibly Garth.
The Del Mar Futurity is the feature race on the final day of the summer meeting. The Los Angeles County Fair meeting begins at Los Alamitos on Sept. 6.
