Schedule set for Florida Sire Stakes
The FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes for 2-year-olds sired by accredited stallions in Florida will begin with the $100,000 Dr. Fager and the $100,000 Desert Vixen for fillies on Aug. 6. Both races are at six furlongs.
They next two races in the series are at seven furlongs on Sept. 3, with the $200,000 Affirmed and $200,000 Susan’s Girl for fillies leading up to the $400,000 In Reality and $400,000 My Dear Girl for fillies. The 1 1/16-mile In Reality and My Dear Girl will be held Oct. 1.
Supporting the In Reality and My Dear Girl is the inaugural running of the $100,000 Florida Sire Stakes Gil Campbell Memorial for 3-year-olds going one mile.
The Florida Sire Stakes series, which has produced five Eclipse Award champions, is part of a 40-race stakes schedule for the spring, summer, and fall months of the Royal Palm meet.

Another highlight of the meet is the Summit of Speed weekend, which features the Grade 2, $250,000 Princess Rooney Invitational for fillies and mares and the Grade 3, $100,000 Smile Sprint for 3-year-olds and up on July 2. The Princess Rooney will be contested at seven furlongs, and the Smile Sprint is at six furlongs.
The $100,000 Bob Umphrey Sprint also is part of the Summit of Speed. The five-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up on Tapeta goes July 3.
A couple of races for 3-year-olds going a mile on turf kick off the Royal Palm meet’s stakes program Saturday with the $75,000 Honey Ryder for fillies and the $75,000 English Channel.
