Scat Means Go finds softer spot in Aspen Cup
Scat Means Go will return to racing in New Mexico on Saturday after recent stakes jaunts to Southern California and Kentucky. She is set for a start in the $50,000 Aspen Cup at Ruidoso Downs following her fifth-place finish in the Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita and third-place effort in the Grade 3 Eight Belles at Churchill Downs.
The Aspen Cup is a six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies.
Scat Means Go last raced in New Mexico in March and finished third in the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks but was elevated to second on a disqualification. From there, Scat Means Go tested graded rivals in the Eight Belles in May and closed from last to finish 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Promise Me Silver.
Scat Means Go has made one start since, and hooked Grade 1 winner Stellar Wind in the Summertime Oaks in June. Scat Means Go finished 10 lengths back of that one after a wide trip in the 1 1/16- race that to date has produced one next-out winner, runner-up Tara’s Tango, who took an optional $40,000 claimer at Del Mar on Wednesday.
Scat Means Go cuts back to one turn for J. Kirk and Judy Robison and trainer Henry Dominguez. The last time she sprinted she put up her best Beyer Speed Figure, an 84, in the Eight Belles. She will be ridden by Casey Lambert.
