Sc Money Maker brings solid credentials to Kindergarten Futurity
Experience may be the difference for Sc Money Maker in Sunday’s $321,800 Kindergarten Futurity for Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos.
Sc Money Maker has started three times, including a third by a neck in the $371,200 Oklahoma Futurity at 300 yards at Remington Park on March 24. Sc Money Maker was shipped to California following that race and won a division of the Kindergarten Futurity time trials at 300 yards on May 7, setting the fastest qualifying time of 15.31 seconds.
The 10 fastest finishers in the time trials, regardless of finishing positions, qualified for the Kindergarten, the first futurity of the year at Los Alamitos. The 10-horse field for the final includes five trial-race winners.
Sc Money Maker is owned by breeder Reliance Ranches and trained by Mike Robbins. A gelding, Sc Money Maker is by PYC Paint Your Wagon and is out of Spit Curl Diva, the champion aged mare of 2010 and 2011.
Reliance Ranches and Robbins also start the undefeated filly Pack Light and Sc Coronada, who was third in a division of the trials to Tac Me Up.
Sc Coronada, by Coronado Cartel, is out of Spit Curl Diva. It is common in Quarter Horse racing for leading mares to have multiple foals of the same age. The mares are bred via embryo transfer.
Pack Light won her debut on April 13 in a 300-yard maiden race and a division of the Kindergarten trials in 15.46 seconds. Tac Me Up is unbeaten in two starts. Trained by Christopher O’Dell, Tac Me Up beat maidens on April 15 and won a division of the trials in 15.46 seconds.
Ms Ko, one of six fillies in the field, is the only other undefeated runner. She won her debut in the Kindergarten trials in 15.50 seconds.
