Sav turns tables on Ciuri in La Prevoyante

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sav ($3.30) ran down archrival Ciuri in the stretch to notch her first stakes win in the $100,000 La Prevoyante on Sunday at Woodbine.
Ciuri set dawdling fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies, with Sav, under a hot-riding Justin Stein, tracking her throughout. Sav then wore down Ciuri in the drive en route to a 1 1/4-length score, which reversed the order of finish from the June 28 Lady Angela Stakes, when Ciuri led all the way.
After winning Saturday’s Bull Page on Dotted Line, Sav gave Stein a sweep of the two weekend stakes at Woodbine. After romping in a recent seven-furlong allowance, Stein said Sav relaxed nicely in her first start around two turns in the La Prevoyante.
“When I rode her the first time, she settled,” Stein recalled. “She was really comfortable early in the race. Today, I just put my hands down on her, and she was pretty happy sitting where she was. She got [into] a rhythm. When she’s going easy like that, she’s saving energy for the [stretch] run.”
A daughter of Big Screen who is trained by Ricky Griffeth, Sav earned $60,000 for owner Steven Duffield. She covered the distance in 1:45.79.
Golden Vision rallied to just miss second, and was followed by Royal Wedding, Londonderry, and Miss Ariel.
