Sav stretches out in distance for La Prevoyante Stakes

Alex Campbell|Nov 08, 2019
Ciuri wins the 2019 Lady Angela Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack
Michael Burns Ciuri, shown winning the Lady Angela, is the only stakes winner in the La Prevoyante field.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sav will look to record her first stakes win when she stretches out around two turns for the first time in Sunday’s $100,000 La Prevoyante Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Sav comes into the 1 1/16-mile La Prevoyante on the strength of a 6 1/2-length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint on Oct. 14, earning a career-best 84 Beyer Speed Figure for trainer Ricky Griffith and owner Steve Duffield. She’s come close to recording her first stakes win on several occasions, with runner-up finishes in the My Dear Stakes as a 2-year-old last season, and in the Lady Angela Stakes and Passing Mood Stakes this season.

The daughter of Big Screen should be able to handle the stretch-out. Her sire won a stakes over a mile and was graded-stakes placed at the same distance, while Sav’s dam, Executive Affair, has produced Bunty Lawless Stakes winner, Cooler Mike, and other route winners, including Rackman and Cash for Life.

Key Contenders

Sav, by Big Screen

Last 3 Beyers: 84-66-66

◗ Justin Stein takes over in the saddle for Jesse Campbell. Stein was aboard Sav for her runner-up finish in the Passing Mood Stakes three starts back on Aug. 31.

◗ Her career record on Woodbine’s Tapeta is three wins and three runner-up finishes from eight starts.

Ciuri, by Souper Speedy

Last 3 Beyers: 68-63-44

◗ She’s the only horse in the field to have won a stakes, as she captured the Lady Angela over seven furlongs of Tapeta on June 28.

◗ She figures to be among the early leaders in this event.

Golden Vision, by Court Vision

Last 3 Beyers: 68-60-64

◗ Like Sav, she will be stretching out around two turns for the first time after running in sprints for the first seven starts of her career.

◗ She made her stakes debut in the Passing Mood Stakes over seven furlongs on turf on Aug. 31, finishing fourth behind Speedy Soul.

Miss Ariel, by Silent Name

Last 3 Beyers: 57-78-66

◗ She could try to take the field all the way, but may have to deal with Ciuri in the early portions of the race.

◗ She’ll be cutting back in distance following a sixth-place finish in the Carotene Stakes on Oct. 20.

◗ She finished third in back-to-back stakes starts in the Passing Mood Stakes on Aug. 31 and the Ontario Damsel Stakes on Sep. 22.
