Saturday stakes recaps (8/7/04)

DRF Staff|Aug 09, 2004

* One for Rose ($6), last year's champion older filly or mare in Canada, raced to a five-length victory over males in the $136,700 Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine. Also at Woodbine, Chris's Bad Boy set the course record for 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass in Saturday's second race, covering the distance in 1:14.27 seconds.

* Calkins Road ($8.80) reversed the outcome of the Grade 3 Seabiscuit Handicap at Bay Meadows when he rallied down the lane to defeat odds-on favorite Yougottawanna to win the $100,340 Joseph T. Grace Handicap at the Sonoma County Fair.

* Yankee Wildcat ($18.20) scored a wire-to-wire upset in the $75,000 Mister Diz Stakes at Pimlico, beating Nortouch by 3 1/2 lengths. Defending champ Ghostly Numbers tracked the pace but faded to finish last of eight.

* Im a Dixie Girl ($5) romped to a 8 1/4-length win in the $60,000 Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park. Also at Monmouth, Iglesias ($26.60) stormed down the center of the track to win the third leg of the $36,000 Malouf Auto Group Starter Series.

* Caught in the Rain ($7.60), a multiple graded-stakes winner on turf, proved she could handle dirt just fine as she wore down Golddigger Beware for a three-quarter-length victory in the $50,000 Pistol Packer Handicap for statebreds at Philadelphia Park.

* Baldomera ($17.20) came five wide into the turn and nailed heavy favorite Gilded Gold in the final strides to win the $50,000 Pollys Jet by a nose at Delaware Park. Spirited Game was another half-length back in third in the six-furlong stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

* Happy Ticket ($2.40) kept her perfect record intact by recording a 2 1/2-length victory in the Elge Rasberry Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

* Shandy ($8.20) wore down pacesetter Honor Me in the final furlong and scored a half-length victory over that rival in the $50,000 Prairie Meadows Sprint Stakes.

* Dontbotherknocking ($10.80) rallied down the stretch to beat favored Al's Dearly Bred by a neck in the John Bullitt Stakes at Canterbury Park.

* A return to racing against straight 3-year-olds benefited Wacky Patty ($12.40), who picked up her fifth career stakes win in the $40,000 Lakeway Stakes at Retama Park.

* Cayenne Red broke in full stride to set all the pace en route to a three-length win in the $40,000 six-furlong North Randall Stakes at Thistledown.
