Saturday stakes recaps (8/16/03)

* City Sleeper ($4.20) defeated Lady Mallory by a nose in the $35,000 Lakeway Stakes at Retama Park. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Real Bear in the seven furlong race for 3-year-old fillies. City Sleeper covered the distance in 1:22.38.

* Spring Cat ($20.60), one of two fillies in the six-horse field of Ohio-bred 2-year-olds in the $35,000 Loyalty Stakes at Thistledown, caught the pacesetting Catch My Cat in the final strides to win by a nose.
