Saturday stakes recaps (12/31/05)

DRF Staff|Jan 02, 2006

* Disappearing Trick, son of Horse of the Year Favorite Trick, did the family proud in the $166,933 Riley Allison Futurity at Sunland with a stylish win. Owned by George Coleman and trained by Henry Dominguez, he paid $15.60 and ran the distance in 1:18.55.

* It was not as easy as her $2.60 payoff indicates, but heavily favored Tortuga Flats outfinished a stubborn Hottamolly in a spirited stretch drive to win the filly division of the Louisiana Futurity at the Fair Grounds meeting at Louisiana Downs. In the colt and gelding division, co-favorite Nob Hill Deelite ($4.80) was fully extended to outfinish 5-1 third choice Carson Bay.

* Vegas Play ($16.40) overcame a ridiculous amount of trouble to win the $75,000 Maryland Juvenile Champion Stakes at Laurel by a half-length over Creve Coeur, who had 1 3/4 lengths on 3-5 favorite Travelin Leroy.

* Relaxing nicely under John McKee, Lawyer Ron set the pace, turned back a bid from runner-up Desert Wheat turning for home, and drew clear once again through the stretch to capture the $100,000 Diamond Jo Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

* California invader Bully Bones ($5.40) had no trouble adapting to new surroundings when she dominated the opposition in Turf Paradise's $40,000 Arizona Juvenile Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Also on the card, Moores Bridge ($4.40) finished determinedly to win the $40,000 Cactus Wren, a sprint for Arizona-breds.

* Ranging up along the outside turning into the stretch, Misty Rosette ($12.20) shook off favored Rgirldoesn'tbluff leaving the furlong marker and drew off to post a 3 3/4-length victory in the $60,000 Sandpiper Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

* Rhythmic Moves ($7) overcame a bobble coming out of the starting gate to post a one-length victory in the $40,000 Henry Mercer Memorial Stakes for 2-year-old West Virginia-breds at Charles Town. Ridden by Carlos Castro for trainer James Casey, Rhythmic Moves was making his first start since easily winning his maiden on Nov. 10.
