* Charming Socialite ($16.80) picked up the fifth stakes win of his career when he led throughout to capture the $40,000 Buffalo Bayou Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

* Coming off an optional claiming victory, Strategically ($55.60) took a significant step up in class for the $40,000 Walter R. Cluer Handicap at Turf Paradise but proved more than up to the task, posting a 25-1 upset victory over eight others.

* Ashby Hill ($13.60), who holds the track record for six furlongs at Zia Park, became a stakes winner at that distance when he won the track's $59,860 Lea County Sprint.

* Turnpike Mike ($14.40) survived a pace duel with 3-5 favorite Tommy Panache and held off Major Mark late to score a 1 3/4-length victory in the $40,000 Ohio Freshman at Beulah Park.
