Saturday Nite Ride delivers in Wild Rose
As expected, Saturday Nite Ride was an easy four-length winner of the $50,000 Wild Rose Handicap at Northlands Park on Saturday. She paid $2.20 as the overwhelming favorite in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares that drew five horses.
Saturday Nite Ride broke alertly with Quincy Welch aboard, and for a brief moment, it looked like Welch was going to ease her into a stalking position. Instead, he put her on the lead, where she repelled early challenges by Ten Thirty and Silkworm. After posting interior fractions of 23.16 and 46.37 seconds, she started to pull away on the stretch turn.
She held a four-length lead heading into the stretch and was geared down while easily holding off Tempered Sapphire, who rallied from last. Canaveral Leader passed tiring horses to finish third.
The final time was 1:12.13.
“She’s a push-button horse, and you can put her anywhere you want,” said Welch. “But I didn’t want to mess around, so I just let her run her race.”
It was her fourth win in four starts at Northlands.
“I am starting to get the feeling she likes this place,” said trainer Dennis Terry.
Saturday Nite Ride is owned by Mark DeDomenico LLC and Glen Todd.
