Saturday feature likely to be rained off turf
On Thursday, races were rained off the turf for the eighth straight racing day, with more rain falling early in the card and another round of showers forecast to hit the area Friday night into Saturday. If the forecast holds, there’s a good chance that races Saturday, including the featured eighth, will once again be rained onto the main track.
The Saturday feature, a turf route for fillies and mares, is a second-level allowance also open to $40,000 claimers, and handicappers should look to the main-track-only entrants if the surface is switched. Tiz Lately and Silent Ronin crossed the finish line second and sixth last out in the $50,000 Tiffany Lass at Fair Grounds, though Tiz Lately was disqualified to sixth, and both will have a chance on dirt. Silent Ronin was racing after a two-month layoff and appeared to tire late. She could move forward Saturday.
On turf, Great Majestic is interesting. She ran well twice last meet in Fair Grounds turf races and finished a decent fifth in a race like this Dec. 13 in a start she surely needed to shake off the rust following a long layoff.
