Saturday card coming up strong
Parx has pulled out all the stops for its premier racing program of the year Saturday, which is topped by the Pennsylvania Derby and Cotillion, both $1 million Grade 1’s.
Also slotted are the Grade 3, $300,000 Gallant Bob, a competitive six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds; the $150,000 Pennsylvania Derby Championship, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up; and the Alphabet Soup, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for Pennsylvania-breds.
The card includes four first-level allowance races, a second-level optional claimer, and a 2-year-old maiden race.
Chad Brown has entered horses in two of the allowance races in addition to having Instilled Regard in the Pennsylvania Derby, Separationofpowers in the Cotillion, and Engage and Earned Success in the Gallant Bob.
Jason Servis and Jorge Navarro each has horses in two overnight races, as well as horses in two of the stakes. On the local front, John Servis has horses in eight races, Marcos Zulueta in seven, and Carlos Guerrero in five.
Jockeys named to ride Saturday include Irad and Jose Ortiz, Robby Albarado, Florent Geroux, Corey Lanerie, Joel Rosario, Luis Saez, Mike Smith, Joe Talamo, and John Velazquez.
