From a race favorite to several intriguing contenders and longshots, a diverse group of fillies and mares start in Breeders’ Cup races at Keeneland on Saturday with another big occasion in their lives looming two days later.
They are entered to be sold at Monday’s prestigious Fasig-Tipton November Sale in Lexington, Ky. The one-day auction has a catalog of more than 180 horses, consisting largely of broodmares, weanlings, and horses of racing age.
Big sale figures are expected at the auction, which begins at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Last year, Fasig-Tipton reported that 144 horses sold for more than $105.3 million, an average of $731,548 and a median price of $322,500. The data included six transactions after the sale for an average of $550,000.
The returns were higher than the 2024 auction at which 178 horses sold for more than $96.4 million, an average of $541,705 and a median of $250,000.

Last year, Streak of Luck, the dam of 2025 champion 2-year-old male Ted Noffey, sold for $6.2 million, the most expensive hip of the auction.
Sale company executives cited the support of international buyers as a leading reason for across-the-board increases at the boutique sale.
While established broodmares may easily bring the highest prices on Monday, the results of Breeders’ Cup races on Saturday such as the Distaff, Filly and Mare Sprint, Filly and Mare Turf, and Turf Sprint will influence prices for some fillies and mares offered as racing or broodmare prospects.
Among broodmares, there will be widespread interest for In It for the Gold, the dam of BC Sprint favorite Englishman, who sells in foal to top stallion Into Mischief; Atomic Blonde, the dam of 2026 Preakness Stakes winner Napoleon Solo, who sells in foal to Flightline; and Leslie’s Prayer, dam of the Grade 2 winner Praying, who sells in foal to Not This Time.
Napoleon Solo is entered in the BC Classic, while Praying is an outsider in the Filly and Mare Sprint.
There are four other fillies and mares entered in the Filly and Mare Sprint entered in Monday’s sale – Nooni, R Disaster, Simply Joking, and Ways and Means.
Ways and Means, who races for owner and breeder Seth Klarman’s Klavarich Stable and trainer Chad Brown, has won 7 of 13 starts and earned $1,637,500. A 5-year-old mare by Practical Joke, Ways and Means will start in the BC Filly and Mare Sprint on the strength of a win by 5 1/2 lengths in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 29. She is expected to be favored.
Of the 15 entrants in the BC Filly and Mare Turf, six are in the sale – Bless the Broken, Classic Q, Eccentric, Jancis, Kathynmarissa, and Vina Arana, who is the lone runner on the also-eligible list.
Kathynmarissa, the winner of the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga and Grade 2 Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park in her last two starts, is rated as the top domestic hope in a race led by European shippers.
In the BC Distaff, the outsiders Eunomia and Scottish Lassie are booked to sell on Monday, while sale entrants in the BC Turf Sprint include the fillies and mares Cy Fair, In Our Time, and Shisospicy.
Last November at this corresponding sale, Shisospicy was listed as sold for $5.2 million in a transaction that essentially ended a partnership. Shisospicy raced for Morplay Racing and Qatar Racing for her final three starts in 2025, which included a win in the BC Turf Sprint at Del Mar in the days before the auction.
In her lone start this year, Shisospicy finished last of seven for Morplay Racing in the Grade 2 Unbridled Sidney Stakes at Churchill Downs in May.
Cy Fair, winner of the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar last October, has won two Grade 3 stakes this year and finished a troubled sixth by two lengths in the Grade 2 Music City Stakes at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 5.
In the last two November sales, the most expensive weanlings were purchased for $675,000 and $800,000.
The weanlings offered on Monday include a Tiz the Law colt who is a half-brother to Englishman; a filly by Not This Time who is a full sister to Breeders’ Cup Classic entrant Magnitude; and a Gun Runner filly out of Loyalty, the 2023 champion sprinter in Canada.
Aside from the fillies and mares entered in Breeders’ Cup races, there are a plentiful number in the auction offered as racing or broodmare prospects.
The group includes the millionaires Ag Bullet and Fionn.
The broodmares available include Phillys Finest, who has been bred to Sierra Leone and is a half-sister to BC Dirt Mile entrant Further Ado, and Nothing Like You, the winner of the Grade 2 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos who sells in foal to Justify.
Thermal, winner of the Memorial Day Sprint for fillies and mares by 8 1/4 lengths at Lone Star Park in May, sells as a racing or broodmare prospect. By Nyquist, Thermal is a half-brother to the promising 2-year-old colt Nevada, a two-length winner of a maiden race at a mile in his debut at Belmont Park on Oct. 16.
