Sassy Agnes draws clear in Shesastonecoldfox Stakes

Jim Dunleavy|Oct 22, 2018
Sassy Agnes wins the 2018 Shesastonecoldfox Stakes
SV Photography Sassy Agnes drew clear under Oscar Gomez for a 3 1/2-length victory in Monday's Shesastonecoldfox Stakes.

Sassy Agnes was quickest early and strongest late to win the $50,000 Shesastonecoldfox Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths over four other New York-bred 2-year-old fillies at Finger Lakes on Monday.

Currently based at Belmont Park with trainer Linda Rice, the Shesastonecoldfox was Sassy Agnes's second trip to Finger Lakes. Following a second against maiden company, Rice shipped the daughter of Central Banker in from Saratoga to win the $112,000 Lady Finger Stakes in early September.

Sassy Agnes broke sharply in the six-furlong Shesastonecoldfox but was soon joined from the inside by Oh Dilly. Those two raced head and head on the pace with Wait a Minute and 4-5 favorite Party Like Grandma just behind them.

Nearing the stretch, Sassy Agnes wrested command from Oh Dilly. She then widened her advantage through the stretch under jockey Oscar Gomez.

Sassy Agnes, who is now 2 for 4, is owned by Beach Haven Thorougbreds LLC. She paid $5.60 and was timed in 1:11.43.

Wait a Minute ran a solid race to be second. Hemmed in behind the leaders and inside Party Like Grandma, she didn’t find a seam until the stretch. She outgamed Party Like Grandma for second by 1 1/4 lengths.

It was five lengths back from Party Like Grandma in third to Ma Meatball. Oh Dilly tired to last position.
