Sari's Tiger proven at the distance

Sari’s Tiger rallied to win a $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies on Aug. 3 and should get the same kind of trip in the featured Thoroughbred race at Emerald Downs on Sunday. The one-mile race for sophomore fillies running for a $25,000 claiming price drew six horses and goes as race 6 on a 10-race card that begins at 2 p.m. Pacific.

Quarter Horse fans will be treated to three stakes races, headed by the $35,000 Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge. Cm Boom Shakalaka will likely be favored in the 440-yard race, which drew 10 horses and goes as race 9.

Cm Boom Shakalaka will be ridden by Javier Matias for trainer Nick Lowe. Matias, third in the jockey standings, won both stakes races for Thoroughbreds last Sunday. He also won with both of his Quarter Horse mounts at the meet. He has 58 wins from 264 mounts on Quarter Horses for earnings of $328,003. His Thoroughbred mounts have earned over $13.5 million.

Sari’s Tiger, trained by Steve Bullock, is the only horse in her race who has a win going a middle distance. With the speedy Perfect Blossom breaking from the rail and Algorithmnblues breaking from the outside, the race should set up perfectly for Sari’s Tiger, who will break from post 4 with Kevin Krigger retaining the mount.

KEY CONTENDRS

Sari’s Tiger, by Smiling Tiger

Last 3 Beyers: 42-44-45

◗ She has a solid record at Emerald and let us know she was ready for a big race when she finished a fast-closing third to Perfect Blossom going six furlongs in a $25,000 claimer on July 21.

◗ With a sharp interim work on Aug. 19, she appears to be primed for another strong performance.

Classic Leah, by Sixthirteen

Last 3 Beyers: 37-54-42

◗ The Vince Gibson trainee looked good winning a $10,000 claimer on July 14 and took them a long way before giving it up late to Sari’s Tiger in her first route attempt.

◗ Easy to imagine her taking a big step forward with the experience behind her and with leading rider Gary Wales aboard.

Algorithmnblues, by Algorithms

Last 3 Beyers: 59-49-45

◗ She finished third in one of three tries going a mile.

◗ She was facing older fillies and mares when she just missed going six furlongs in a $7,500 claimer for nonwinners-of-three for Vince Gibson in July.

◗ She goes from one good trainer to another after being claimed by Joe Toye, who has a 20 percent strike rate and $1.66 ROI with claimed horses running back the first time

◗ Bred in Kentucky by Claiborne Farm, she owns the best last-race Beyer in the field. If she can stalk what figures to be a fast pace, she could pick up the pieces.
