Saratoga: Winter Memories ready for Lake Placid
Barbara D. Livingston Winter Memories works five furlongs in 59.29 seconds over the Oklahoma turf on Monday morning.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In her first breeze since winning the Lake George, Winter Memories went five furlongs in 59.29 over the Oklahoma turf, getting her final three furlongs in 34.72 under jockey Jose Lezcano.
“I wanted to go a nice easy five furlongs, but when they got to walking around and waiting over there I knew that she’d go quick,” trainer Jimmy Toner said. “I knew she’d be a little bit on the anxious side. I’d rather she had gone a little bit slower, but there’s a fine line. Do you stand up and clamp her down, or do you let her do her thing? He wasn’t asking her for anything.”
On July 27, Winter Memories won the Lake George by 4 1/2 lengths, her fifth win from six career starts.
