Saratoga Wednesday card canceled due to heavy rain; Curlin, Glens Falls to be run Sunday

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Wednesday’s eight-race card at Saratoga was canceled due to heavy rain that impacted the area, the New York Racing Association announced.

Additionally, the Grade 2, $250,000 Glens Falls Stakes, scheduled for 1 1/2 miles on turf on Thursday, will instead be run Sunday. There will now be an eight-race card Thursday and certain wagers - the pick six, the late pick five, and the late pick four will not be offered. Also, races 2,5, and 9, originally scheduled for the turf, will now be run on the dirt.

Sunday’s card will now consist of 11 races, including the Glens Falls; the $150,000 Curlin Stakes, initially scheduled for Wednesday; and the originally scheduled Grade 3, $225,000 Adirondack Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

According to a release, Saratoga received more than four inches of rain overnight and the forecast called for two or more inches of rain throughout Wednesday. The National Weather Service has placed the Capital Region under a flood watch through 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Before announcing the cancellation of the entire card, NYRA had announced the four scheduled turf races would be moved to the main track.

NYRA on Wednesday also cut short training on the main track at 9 a.m., one hour earlier than usual. It cut short training on the Oklahoma training track by 30 minutes.

Those who purchased tickets for Wednesday’s card will be contacted by the NYRA box office for additional information about refunds or exchanges. In addition, Aqueduct will be closed for simulcasting Wednesday.

Thursday’s eight-race Saratoga card will begin at 1:10 p.m.
