Saratoga: Wave Theory due for clean trip in My Princess Jess

Trainer Chad Brown is hopeful that his two-time graded-stakes-placed filly Wave Theory can get back on the winning track in Saturday’s $100,000 My Princess Jess overnight stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Wave Theory, to be ridden by Joel Rosario, is coming off a second-place finish behind the multiple stakes winner Discreet Marq in the Grade 2 Sands Point at Belmont on May 27. She also finished a troubled third in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs in February. Despite her impressive résumé, Wave Theory has won just once in eight career starts.

“She’s had bad racing luck,” Brown said. “She got very unlucky in the Ginger Brew this winter at Gulfstream. She got stopped, and the winner came around and got the jump on her. I think she should have won that race, and she also had to alter course in her last start, or I think she would have won that one, too. Joel is going to ride her. He’s breezed her twice and likes her. She likes firm ground. She just needs to get a trip, but it looks like a good spot for her.”

Among the 15 entered for the My Princess Jess are several others, like Wave Theory, with Grade 1 experience: Broken Spell, Let Me Entertain U, and Silsita.
