SPOT PLAYS AND LIVE LONGSHOTS
SOUND OF FREEDOM (#5, 2-1) Showed big speed from the gate in his last work, looks like another speedball from Todd Pletcher 2yo factory. May have to beat Kiaran McLaughlin's firster Point Hope. - Mike Welsch
DO I AMUSE YOU (#6, 12-1) got hooked up in a competitive pace here opening weekend when finishing behind several of these, but appears to have landed in a much more comfortable early scenario here and can take advantage. - Mike Beer
DO I AMUSE YOU (#6, 12-1) was behind a couple of these last time but he was cooked in an early duel, and he should get a much more favorable race flow in this one; extra distance a slight concern but if allowed to set his own pace he could get brave on the lead. – Kenny Peck
Saratoga Race 9, (5:12 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT
HEDONEMEWRONGSONG (#5, 10-1) Not that HOF conditioner J.Sheppard has anything to prove, but his 1-for record thus far at the Spa this summer could use some improving. This homebred filly stands to break out with a career best in this well-matched stakes following a decent run in Virginia, and fact Sheppard is going out of his way to try this brand seems a mitt-tipper. Stalking trip liable to net a pricey upset with the underrated Saez up. – Marty McGee
BARBIE WIRE (#9, 6-1) her lone turf outing, a win last spring at Belmont with a competitive figure, produced four next-out winners out of five that raced; listed price unlikely, but 4-1 will suffice. - Chuck Kuehhas
Saratoga Race 9, (5:12 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT
HEDONEMEWRONGSONG (#5, 10-1) A debut maiden winner on the same Mellon turf course as a juvenile, she exhibits a nice development line after an improved effort to finish a close fourth in the Virginia Derby second time out this year; one of two in the field turning back to a shorter route in this overnight stake. - Dave Litfin
SILSITA (#7, 9-2) fits the conditions of this stake perfectly, being restricted to horses that have not won a graded stake on turf. She is a graded stakes winner, but on Polytrack, having taken the Bourbonette at Turfway. And she showed a liking for the Saratoga course with a game stakes win here July 20. – Byron King
SUMMER OF FUN (#8, 7-2) Multiple graded stakes placed filly still without a stakes victory to her credit but training recently on turf and dirt like she's ready to finally break through in the Auntie Mame. - Mike Welsch
VULNERABLE FAVORITES
PRUDENT INVESTOR (#7, 3-1) Haven't like the way this one has looked during his recent a.m. breezes and facing some tough opposition in likes of Smoke Town, Logan Street and Maker claimed Flowing Mane. - Mike Welsch
SOUL HOUSE (#7, 7-5) Is the horse to beat with three of the best Beyer Speed Figures in the field, but he had a great setup last time in a race loaded with speed, and may not be in the same situation here. - Mike Beer
