SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Gentlemen’s Bet and Delaunay, the top two finishers from the Iowa Sprint Handicap, both worked at Saratoga on Saturday in advance of their rematch in next Sunday’s Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap.
Gentlemen’s Bet, with jockey Joel Rosario up, worked four furlongs in 48.69 seconds. A few hours earlier, Delaunay, with Rosie Napravnik up, went a half-mile in 48.13 seconds.
For Gentlemen’s Bet, a winner of five of six career starts, it was his first work over the Saratoga main track.

“I was very pleased,” trainer Ron Moquett said. “I wanted to see how he handled the surface and I thought he handled it very well.”
For, Delaunay, it was his second breeze at Saratoga and came one week after he went a half in 55.03 seconds.
“He breezed nicely, like he always does,” trainer Tom Amoss said. “Kind of aggressive early and then settled down after a quarter-mile. After last week, I was a little nervous, but the track was very deep.”
