Saratoga shippers figure prominently in turf feature
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLELOUISVILLE, Ky. – The power of Saratoga is likely to be reflected on the Churchill Downs tote board when Dynazar and Silverpocketsfull go postward as top contenders in the Friday feature while returning from one-and-done action at the Spa.
Dynazar faded to finish well beaten in a first-level turf allowance during the first week of the Saratoga meet, while Silverpocketsfull ran an okay fourth at that same level on the main track in mid-August.
Those prodigal fillies are among an oversubscribed field of 3- and 4-year-old fillies in the ninth of 10 Friday races, a $40,200, first-level allowance at a mile on turf. Other logical players in a well-matched group include Miss Always Ready, Vapor Cloud, and Queenie’s Song.
First post Friday is 12:45 p.m. Eastern, with the nominal feature set for 4:49. The undercard includes one starter allowance (race 2) and two maiden special weights (races 7 and 10). The forecast calls for the same warm and dry conditions that have prevailed throughout the 11-day September meet.
Race 9
KEY CONTENDERS
Dynazar (Last 3 Beyers: 53-84-68)
◗ Opened her career in June for Dallas Stewart with a couple of solid efforts over the Churchill turf before perhaps being a bit too sharp in her Saratoga trouncing; comes favorably drawn in post 2 here with Julien Leparoux taking the call.
Silverpocketsfull (Last 3 Beyers: 77-70-81)
◗ She makes her turf debut here after dabbling in the stakes ranks for much of this season for Ian Wilkes; has been assigned post 10 with Robby Albarado up.
Vapor Cloud (Last 3 Beyers: 80-58-62)
◗ First and only appearance this year resulted in a romp over the Arlington Park turf, although it’s questionable what she beat in that July 13 maiden race; gets post 5 with the red-hot Florent Geroux named.
Queenie’s Song (Last 3 Beyers: 64-68-80)
◗ The beaten favorite in each of her last two starts, she’s one of two in here for trainer Kellyn Gorder (along with Miss Always Ready) and could be flaunting her speed, assuming Joe Rocco Jr. sends her from post 11.
