SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A tote error made on wagers involving Thursday’s pick six at Saratoga placed through the TVG hub, caused TVG to have to refund $41,793 to its customers, according to a company official and the New York Racing Association. Some wagers placed on the pick six through TVG were made at the 20-cent denomination, which had been the minimum for the wager the last time racing was held at Saratoga last summer. The New York Racing Association adjusted the minimum to $1 beginning with the Belmont Park spring/summer meet in April. According to Andrew Moore, vice president/racing for TVG, the error did not get caught until late in the day. TVG customers, whether they placed a winning or losing ticket, were made whole, according to Moore. According to NYRA, there was one TVG customer who had 5 of 6, which paid $458. “We’re still investigating why that happened, just haven’t gotten to the bottom of that yet,” Moore said. “The outcome for the customer is if you placed a pick six wager with TVG then you will be refunded your bets, but if you did get a 5 out of 6 or a 6 out of 6, we will make good on that.” According to NYRA president and CEO Dave O’Rourke, the bet-processing company Am-Tote on Thursday had linked the pick six wager up with all their clients at the 20-cent base. The error was corrected in most places before wagering opened on that bet. However, it was not corrected at certain TVG hubs. “I made the decision to remove the money that is at the wrong base amount, and the only way to do that was to get rid of all of TVG’s dollars,” O’Rourke said. The $41,793 that was removed from the pool was seeded back into the pool, according to O’Rourke. “I’m telling Am-Tote to seed the pool,” O’Rourke said.
