Races 5-10 Wednesday at Saratoga offers bettors the opportunity to chase a large Pick-6 pool, sweetened by $245,278 carryover.

The following analysis was updated to reflect races 7 and 10 being moved from turf to dirt, and the scratches that were announced Wednesday morning.

Race 5, the first leg in the sequence and a maiden $20,000 heat, has WORK N FLIRT (#1, 8-5) as a deserving favorite, but since the chalk is not as dependable in a low-end races as in richer contests, the recommended play is to go deep by also using MAMA ZEE (#4, 5-1), INAFLASH (#6, 4-1), and DIAMOND MAKER (#9, 6-1).

Race 6, a stakes-quality turf allowance, is another race in which contention runs deep. No keys here – so suggesting using, in numerical order, these contenders: SLEEPLESS KNIGHT (1A, 8-1), BEAU CHOIX (#9, 6-1), MR. COMMONS (#10, 5-2).

Race 7 is another maiden claimer, shifted Wednesday morning from turf to dirt, sprinting 5 ½ furlongs. The suggested strategy is to go two-deep, playing, in numerical order, MY COUSIN ZINNY (#3, 4-1) and BLUE BALLERINA (#8, 5-2).

Race 8, an allowance for fillies sprinting seven furlongs, is a race in which MOMENT IN DIXIE (#5, 5-2) is a key. A twice stakes-placed filly, she makes her second start of the year after running second with a troubled trip at Belmont Park June 14.

Race 9, The Lake George, attracted arguably the top 3-year-old turf filly in the country in KITTEN’S DUMPLING (#6, 5-2), who was overpowering in winning two stakes at Churchill during the spring. A single.

Race 10 brings back maiden claimers, and as in race 7, this race has been moved from turf to dirt, going 5 1/2 furlongs. SHOW SOME LOVING (#3, 6-1) and LASSO (#7, 3-1) have run reasonably well on dirt, and ALVEAR (#14, 5-1) is a fast-working first timer that was entered as a main-track-only and caught the surface desired by his connections.

A ticket using the horses outlined above in the Pick Six appears below. With the $2 minimum in the wager, the cost of this suggested play is $144.

1, 4, 6 with 1, 9, 10, with 3, 8 with 5 with 6 with 3, 7, 14.
