Saratoga-loving Voodoo Song tries easier in Lure Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Voodoo Song won the Grade 1 Fourstardave here last summer, but his connections have looked for something a bit easier for the 5-year-old New York-bred this summer.
Voodoo Song, trained by Linda Rice, was one of nine entered Wednesday for Saturday’s $100,000 Lure Stakes, a mile race for horses who have not won a graded stakes this year. One of those nine, Control Group, was entered for the main track.
Since winning the Fourstardave – his fifth win in as many starts here – Voodoo Song has lost his last three races, including the Bernard Baruch here last summer and the Grade 3 Forbidden Apple here on July 12.

Voodoo Song will have to face three Chad Brown trainees, including European import Sacred Life, a French-bred son of Siyouni who was a Group 3 winner at 2 and who was twice group-stakes placed this year.
Brown also entered Ticonderoga, seventh in the Grade 3 Poker, and Projected, who finished second in last year’s Lure.
Others entered in the Lure include Noble Indy and Gidu, both trained by Todd Pletcher, Lucullan, and Say the Word.
