SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Flashy Lassie, winner of the Grade 3 Debutante at Churchill Downs in June, will scratch out of Friday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga, trainer Garry Simms said Wednesday morning.\r\nSARATOGA OPENING DAY: Past performances and video previews »\r\nSimms said he did not want to van the filly from Churchill Downs to Saratoga in the oppressive heat that has gripped the Midwest and East Coast. Temperatures were in the 90s in both places on Wednesday.\r\n“To ship her that far in this heat is not the right thing to do,” Simms said. “Plus you got to train over that track up there; it’s not an easy track to ship in and run over. They don’t call it the ‘graveyard’ for nothing. Our goal is to try to get to the Breeders’ Cup with a fresh horse, that’s our thinking.”\r\nSimms said that he would look to run Flashy Lassie in the $85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies at Mountaineer Park on Aug. 6.\r\nFlashy Lassie, who had won a $20,000 maiden claimer in her debut at Churchill, was the only stakes winner in the field of nine entered Tuesday for Friday’s Schuylerville.\r\nFive Star Momma, who finished second in the Debutante, Gypsy Robin, a blowout winner at Keeneland in April, and Georgie’s Angel, a debut winner at Churchill in July look to be the top contenders.
